Dr. Vijay Chaudhary is a Professor of Biochemistry and currently the Director, Centre for Innovation in Infectious Disease Research, Education and Training (CIIDRET) at the University of Delhi South Campus, New Delhi. His experience involves developing recombinant antigens and recombinant antibodies for novel diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. He has experience in phage display technology and human antibody libraries for developing therapeutic antibodies. He is passionate about developing tools, techniques and Technologies, relevant for Human Healthcare for meeting Indian needs, and mentoring young scientists in the same area.
Besides, more than 85 in high-impact international journals such as Nature, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci, USA, J. Biol. Chem., J. Mol. Biol. etc., he has nearly two Dozens of US and Indian patents to his credit. He has received royalties for licensing technologies to industry while working in USA and India. He is a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India. He has been member/Chairman/Co-Chairman of Task Force/IPR/Tech Transfer committees of DBT, ICMR, DST, BIRAC, IKP-knowledge Park etc., and has served as consultant/Advisor to many Bio-pharmaceutical companies. Being among the senior Professors and having served as Head of Department of Biochemistry at the University of Delhi for 3 terms of three years each, he is deeply involved in several policy-making committees of the University.
He has been conferred numerous awards for his innovative works, which include NIH Directors’ Award in 1991 for pioneering the design and production of the world’s first recombinant immunotoxins for targeted therapy of cancer and AIDS, Biotech Product and Process Development and Commercialization Award (2004), NRDC Award (2004), and WIPO Medal for Best Invention (2004) for developing a novel point-of-care test, NEVA-HIV for the detection of HIV (AIDS), and more recently Biotech Product and Process Development and Commercialization Award (2014) for developing a test to confirm the presence of M. tuberculosis in culture. This work also received Visitors’ Award for innovation from the Hon’ble President of India (2015).
